Dry Skin Versus Dehydrated Skin

Dry skin and dehydrated skin are not the same, but most people misdiagnose their skin this way because both feel tight, rough, and uncomfortable. Dry skin is cause by not having enough oils in the skin, and dehydrated skin is from not having enough water in the skin. Both are necessary for a healthy, radiant glow. This same combination is necessary to give your hair body, strength, and shine .

Dry skin can be genetic, but it's more likely to be brought on by harsh Chemicals that are used in commercial soaps and body cleansers. They strip the natural oils that are there to help the skin absorb moisture. If the skin is without enough of these oils for too long, The problem will become more serious and harder to treat. When the skin gets to this state, it becomes weak, and then it will lose water as well, making it feel rough to the touch, and making it harder to absorb oils. So, the two work together to balance it all out. When one is missing, eventually so will the other.

Dehydration of the skin is a loss of water through the elements like wind and sun. Moisture evaporates rapidly through the skin. Some signs of this are tightness, those dreaded fine lines, a lack of radiance, and loss of elasticity. Once this damage occurs, the skin will no longer be a good barrier against the environment. When I use my moisturizer and then lick my lips, I can feel the moisturizer instantly drawn to the moisture, which is exactly what it should do. The natural oils are attracting moisture, and the natural moisture is attracting the oils. Good creams should enhance what your skin does naturally, doubling your results very quickly. However, if you are stripping the natural oils and moisture to begin with, you have just made it a lot harder for the skin to do what it should be doing, absorbing nutrients to the epidermal layer. This is the layer that will eventually be the outer layer of your skin.

I always stress that good skin care and hair care starts with proper cleansing. We sometimes ask , if you could only buy one product, which one should you get. Get a product that cleanses the skin properly, because if it is properly cleansed, you don't need to spend all that money on moisturizers to replace the moisture that is being lost through improper cleansing techniques.

How to wash your hair properly

Even thought it might seem very simple to wash your hair, if you don't do it correctly there is a chance you can damage your hair. Find out how to wash your tresses right.

Washing your hair seems to be a very easy task, but it actually isn't. Improper hair washing can lead to damaged hair, an effect everyone wishes to avoid. In order to make sure you are washing your hair properly you need to:

  • soak your hair in warm water. Make sure you get all your hair wet to allow the hair to be shampooed thoroughly. Use the shower or sink your hair into the bath tub, it doesn't really matter what you prefer

  • rub a quarter size drop of shampoo between your hands and start working your hands around the scalp area to distribute the shampoo evenly. Use a mild shampoo on your hair to avoid removing the hairs natural oil and cause hair damage

  • gently massage the shampoo onto your scalp using the tip of your fingers. Rub in circular motions but make sure not to tangle your hair

  • rinse all the foam formed by rubbing the shampoo off your tresses to remove the dirt

  • apply a little bit of shampoo again if you consider your tresses need more cleansing. Over cleaning your hair will only damage your hair because all the sebum, which is the hairs natural barrier against damaging factors, will be removed

  • rinse the shampoo out of your hair completely. Not rinsing enough will leave the hair looking greasy

  • apply plenty of conditioner between the palms of your hands and smooth onto the hair, from the middle of the hair towards the ends

  • take a wide tooth comb and smooth through the hair to make sure the conditioner is spread evenly throughout the hair

  • rinse the conditioner out of the hair using plenty of water until the hair is completely clean. Give a final rinse with cold water to close the hairs cuticles and make it appear more shiny

  • grab a clean towel and wrap it around your hair. The towel will absorb the excess water out and allow the hair to dry without damaging it. Do not rub the hair, just leave the towel to absorb the water for about 5 to 10 minutes, than let the hair air dry if possible to avoid hair damage

  • Washing your hair properly will prevent your hair from damage. Care for your tresses if you wish to have beautiful, healthy hair.

Women's Hair Trends 2009: Styles, Colors, Cuts

Taking their cues from 2008, in 2009 women's hair trends will play to the extremes. They might be extremely short, extremely girly, extremely sexual or extremely slick. It'll only be the bob hair cut which will sit somewhere to the left of extreme; and you're going to be hard pressed to find that hair style on fashion forward women.

    Women's Hair Cut Trends 2009

Throughout 2008, women's hair cuts did one thing: they got shorter. There was the bob hair trend, the pixie-crop hair trend, and a plethora of others in between.

And unlike the length of women's hair, their popularity grew.

Which leaves us with an interesting predicament for 2009's hair trends: the fashion forward, short hair styles of 2008 are no longer fashion forward. They're no longer unique. Every woman and her chuiauia got one.

So in 2009, fashion forward girls have a choice to make: keep the bobs and blend into the crowd or, to stand out, cut their hair shorter or let it grow.

The Cropped Bob & The Pixie Crop

Girls who cut the bob in 2008 and want a fashion forward look in 2009, are going to have to either let their hair grow out or go something more extreme. Enter the cropped bob and the pixie crop; both perfect for Spring/Summer 2009, but far more difficult to wear for Autumn (Fall)/Winter 2008/2009.

    The Cropped Bob
Cropped bob 2009 hair cut trendTo put it bluntly: the cropped bob is extreme. It's not quite a pixie crop (below) nor a bob. Short all over, even with a heavily shortened blunt cut fringe, it's can only be worn by those who ooze confidence. Just look at Agyness Deyn's cropped, fringed bob (right). Attention grabbing, it's even far less subtle with peroxide blonde hair which I'm tipping as the best colour to wear it with

    The Pixie Crop
The pixie crop started as a hair trend in 2008 but, as a natural progression from the bob hair cut, expect to see plenty of it in 2009.

For those fashionisers who are willing to really take scissors to their hair, the pixie crop offers a bold look far less subtle than the cropped bob, and one that is both young and funky when done right. And doing it right has everything to do with the styling: as we learnt from Katie Holme's pixie crop a lack of styling and product and you can look suddenly middle-aged.

    The Bob

Perhaps both the cropped bob and pixie crop are too extreme for you? Or perhaps you've just got a bob and are eager to keep it. Never fear, the bob hair cut is still in fashion in 2009. It's just not as unique, but paired with the right clothes (check out 2009's Spring/Summer clothes trends here) and hair style you can still own this look.

And what hair styles should you pair a bob with in 2009? If you're bob is chin length, look at sexing it up with the bed hair style, or if your bob is shoulder length also consider an adaptation of the mermaid / 1940s wave style as well as bed hair.

    TYPES OF FOUNDATION

    Types of Make-up Foundations

Should you buy whipped, liquid or powder foundation?

Laura Mercier makes a great tinted moisturizer

Foundation has come a long way since our mom's day, when choices were limited and most foundations were thick, unmanageable creams. These days, there are many types of foundation available, from thick creams with the consistency of concealer to light-as-air tinted moisturizers which create an even skin tone while creating just a hint of color. Thicker, drier makeup covers more, but it's harder to blend. With light makeup, blending is easy, but it's harder to conceal skin's imperfections.

Foundations should do more than even out skin tones and conceal blemishes; it should also actually help your skin appear dewier, stronger and healthier. Here we rundown several types of makeup foundations.

    Tinted Moisturizer

If you don’t need a lot of coverage but do want something to even out your skin tone and relieve dry skin, tinted moisturizer may provide you with just what you need. Tinted moisturizer is perfect for softening and protecting the skin while adding a hint of foundation color. This makeup is also ideal because you don't have to put on moisturizer and then foundation: it's a one-step process.

    Mousse or Whipped Foundation

Mousse or whipped foundation is easier to apply in thin layers than liquid makeup, so you have more control. Mousse makeup is liquid makeup with air whipped in, making it lighter and smoother. It comes in a spray or aerosol-type can, like whipped cream. It costs more than other cosmetics because you're paying for the added air and specialized packaging, but if you've ever spread whipped butter on a hot piece of toast, you know the difference is vast. Whipped foundation is good for all skin types, but it's especially nice for those with dry or aging skin because of its tendency to go on smoothly instead of caking up in facial lines.

    Liquid Foundation

Many women like liquid foundation best because it applies so smoothly and is easily found at your local drugstore. You can enhance the smoothness by putting it on with a slightly damp makeup sponge. Liquid makeup is good around the eyes, where you may want a bit more coverage; you can put it on with a small lip brush for the best control.

You'll often see liquid makeup in waterproof or smudgeproof or even 24 hour versions. But these specialized cremes contain oils and waxy ingredients, causing some sensitive wearers slight skin irritation. If you start having problems with breakouts when wearing waterproof makeup, switch to a non-waterproof type and see if it helps. With more people becoming aware of the importance of skin care to their overall health, companies are creating foundations made with organic ingredients such as essential oils, vegetable oils and minerals instead of chemical dyes.

    Cream-to-Powder Foundation

One of the most interesting and popular foundation options is cream-to-powder foundation, made by companies of good reputation, like L'Oreal. It goes on as a liquid, but dries to a powder finish that minimizes oil and lasts all day. You'll find cream to powder makeup in compacts that look like powder (which may make you wonder why it isn't called powder to cream to powder makeup), or in tubes or bottles. The big draw is its easy application and the fact that you don't have to put on powder for full coverage.

    Concealer

Concealer is thickened, even tinted to correct color for particular areas—under eye smudges, pimples or redness, for example. It's thick and comes in compacts or cover sticks. Makeup artist Bobbi Brown suggests applying concealer before foundation for perfect coverage.

    Minerals

Minerals are the latest thing in makeup. Their popularity has come about in part due to the fact that the foundation has very few ingredients, and those being inert minerals, tend to be perfect for people with allergies or sensitive skin. Brush on minerals with a big, puffy brush, building up layers of nearly-invisible powder. Advertised as a "soft-focus" look, mineral makeup has been compared with the airbrush in creating a flawless appearance.

Do a comparison to find the best makeup for your skin by heading to a department store or drug store makeup counter and try several types.
